C\u2019est pourquoi le t\u00e9moignage de premi\u00e8re main consign\u00e9 par Beno\u00eet Bonte dans son ouvrage <em>Plan\u00e8te Ar\u00e9dit<\/em> (paru en octobre 2024, co\u00e9dit\u00e9 par PLG et N\u00e9of\u00e9lis \u00e9ditions) est d\u2019un grand int\u00e9r\u00eat. Avant de publier quelques albums chez Lefrancq, Soleil et BD Music, Bonte a \u00ab t\u00e2cheronn\u00e9 \u00bb chez Aredit. Artima vit le jour en 1943, \u00e0 Tourcoing. Son nom \u00e9tait une contraction de \u00ab <strong>ART<\/strong>isans en <strong>IMA<\/strong>gerie \u00bb, ce qui s\u2019annonce d\u00e9j\u00e0 comme tout un programme, mais qui s\u2019explique par le fait que l\u2019artisanat \u00e9tait alors le seul domaine dans lequel les occupants allemands tol\u00e9raient la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019entreprises (cf. p. 26). Apr\u00e8s son rachat par les Presses de la Cit\u00e9, la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 prit le nom d\u2019Ar\u00e9dit et c\u2019est \u00e0 compter du milieu de cette d\u00e9cennie que les comics am\u00e9ricains d\u2019importation prirent le pas sur les cr\u00e9ations fran\u00e7aises (que signaient notamment Dansler, Gire, Cazanave, Le Rallic et Brantonne) et europ\u00e9ennes. L\u2019aventure prit fin en 1989.<\/p>\n<p>Beno\u00eet Bonte int\u00e9gra le studio dessin d\u2019Ar\u00e9dit en 1980. Dans son livre, il se fait l\u2019historien d\u2019Artima-Ar\u00e9dit \u2013 tout en confessant, p. 273, qu\u2019il \u00ab n\u2019a jamais con\u00e7u un grand int\u00e9r\u00eat pour les petits formats (encore moins pour les superh\u00e9ros\u2026) \u00bb \u2013 mais les chapitres les plus int\u00e9ressants sont bien ceux qui t\u00e9moignent de son exp\u00e9rience personnelle\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Souvenirs d\u2019un dessinateur de compl\u00e9ments \u00bb (p. 273-299) et \u00ab L\u2019usine \u00e0 BD \u00bb (333-378). Cette derni\u00e8re appellation serait justifi\u00e9e par \u00ab une organisation quasi fordiste \u00bb (p. 334). Documents \u00e0 l\u2019appui, l\u2019auteur explique le processus de r\u00e9alisation d\u2019une histoire \u2013 qui, quelquefois, peut r\u00e9sulter d\u2019un m\u00e9lange entre des \u00e9l\u00e9ments emprunt\u00e9s \u00e0 deux ou trois r\u00e9cits diff\u00e9rents de Marvel ou DC. Chaque case du comics d\u2019origine \u00e9tait num\u00e9rot\u00e9e, et nombre d\u2019entre elles faisaient l\u2019objet d\u2019une censure partielle ou compl\u00e8te, le plus souvent en raison d\u2019une violence jug\u00e9e excessive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">D\u2019autres s\u00e9quences pouvaient \u00eatre retir\u00e9es simplement pour \u00ab s\u2019ajuster \u00e0 la pagination \u00bb. La page que publiera Ar\u00e9dit est donc presque toujours le r\u00e9sultat d\u2019un collage entre des \u00e9l\u00e9ments pr\u00e9lev\u00e9s, qu\u2019il faut adapter au format ou compl\u00e9ter pour combler les \u00ab manques \u00bb. C\u2019est le travail des monteuses (qui indiquent aussi les emplacements o\u00f9 viendront se positionner les textes), \u00e0 la suite duquel la page passe entre les mains du dessinateur de compl\u00e9ments, dont on attend qu\u2019il respecte le style d\u2019origine (autrement dit qu\u2019il le pastiche) et qu\u2019il soigne les raccords. Lucide, Bonte s\u2019autorise cette observation : \u00ab Autant dire qu\u2019une fois sur deux, la planche, telle que con\u00e7ue initialement par des professionnels, dont le m\u00e9tier est de rechercher l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 dans la mise en page et le cadrage, y perd tout impact visuel et structure narrative \u00bb (p. 339). (\u2026) les choses se corsent quand il s\u2019agit des bandes de guerre dessin\u00e9es par Russ Heath : un cauchemar de hachures et de croisillons \u00e0 prolonger. \u00bb (p. 343) \u00ab \u2026 selon la mani\u00e8re dont certaines cases ont \u00e9t\u00e9 agenc\u00e9es, l\u2019importance de la surface \u00e0 remplir et le style parfois complexe des dessins d\u2019origine, les compl\u00e9ter peut se transformer en casse-t\u00eate. \u00bb Et de conc\u00e9der : \u00ab Pour les sc\u00e8nes d\u2019int\u00e9rieur, on use et on abuse de rideaux, plantes vertes, pans de murs (avec ou sans cadres), portes, fen\u00eatres ou tout autre artifice (m\u00eame des aplats noirs : pourquoi se g\u00eaner ?) destin\u00e9s \u00e0 occuper une partie plus ou moins importante de l\u2019image. Lors d\u2019une attaque de pirates, les m\u00e2ts se brisent et les voiles se d\u00e9chirent au premier plan, privant le lecteur des d\u00e9tails de l\u2019assaut.
