On s\u2019en souvient\u00a0: le corps absent y \u00e9tait \u00e9voqu\u00e9 par des v\u00eatements (veste, chemise et pantalon) et l\u2019ectoplasme ainsi constitu\u00e9 \u00e9tait soumis au supplice de l\u2019\u00e9cart\u00e8lement. Une tache sombre au centre de l\u2019image \u00e9voquait un jaillissement de sang d\u00fb \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9clatement des visc\u00e8res\u00a0; il fallait un \u0153il attentif pour voir que le liquide noir \u00e9tait express\u00e9ment d\u00e9sign\u00e9 comme de l\u2019encre sortant d\u2019un petit pot. La mise \u00e0 mort du personnage ainsi th\u00e9matis\u00e9e, pouvait se d\u00e9ployer dans tout le livre un jeu de d\u00e9placements dans le temps et dans l\u2019espace organis\u00e9 autour de quelques lieux embl\u00e9matiques (une pyramide pr\u00e9colombienne, une station d\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, une chambre, une ville moderne, un mus\u00e9e, une cage m\u00e9tallique \u00e9nigmatiquement plant\u00e9e au milieu du d\u00e9sert), leurs rapports topologiques et leurs m\u00e9tamorphoses constantes tenant lieu d\u2019action.<\/p>\n<p>Ilan Manouach s\u2019est \u00e0 son tour adonn\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9vacuation des personnages, mais il en a fait ce que l\u2019Oubapo appelle une \u00ab contrainte transformatrice \u00bb, l\u2019appliquant \u00e0 une bande dessin\u00e9e existante qu\u2019il vide des agents de l\u2019action pour ne laisser subsister que les d\u00e9cors. Ou presque. <em>Riki fermier<\/em> (La 5<sup>e<\/sup> couche, 2015) revisite, sur le mode qui vient d\u2019\u00eatre dit, un album de la s\u00e9rie enfantine Petzi, en l\u2019occurrence <em>Petzi fermier<\/em>. Le changement de titre se justifie par le fait que tous les personnages ont \u00e9t\u00e9 supprim\u00e9s, sauf Riki le p\u00e9lican, ainsi promu unique protagoniste, auquel toutes les bulles de dialogue sont d\u00e9sormais attribu\u00e9es. Comme il est loin d\u2019appara\u00eetre dans toutes les vignettes, nombre d\u2019entre elles ne montrent plus aucun \u00eatre vivant. Ru\u00ebgg avait \u00e9limin\u00e9 non seulement les personnages mais aussi tout dialogue, ne laissant plus appara\u00eetre que des lieux vides, comme un cadre plant\u00e9 pour accueillir de nouveaux r\u00e9cits encore \u00e0 inventer. (Les lecteurs de son roman graphique <em>Clyde Fans<\/em> ne seront pas surpris : de nombreuses pages y consistent seulement en d\u00e9cors urbains.)<\/p>\n<p>Cette strat\u00e9gie d\u2019effacement peut \u00eatre mise en \u0153uvre par le cr\u00e9ateur d\u2019origine lui-m\u00eame. C\u2019est la voie explor\u00e9e par J\u00e9r\u00f4me Dubois, lorsqu\u2019il publia simultan\u00e9ment, en avril 2020, deux livres en miroir, <em>Cit\u00e9ville<\/em> chez Corn\u00e9lius et <em>Cit\u00e9ruine <\/em>aux \u00e9ditions Mati\u00e8re. <em>Cit\u00e9ville<\/em> nous prom\u00e8ne dans neuf lieux embl\u00e9matiques d\u2019un m\u00eame espace urbain imaginaire\u00a0: \u00ab La Station \u00bb, le \u00ab P\u00f4le enfant \u00bb, la \u00ab Maison de retrait \u00bb, le \u00ab Stade de sport\u00a0\u00bb ou l\u2019hypermarch\u00e9 \u00ab Buy more \u00bb. Des sc\u00e8nes \u2013 impliquant des personnages diff\u00e9rents \u2013 s\u2019y d\u00e9roulent, fragments gla\u00e7ants de la vie dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 barbare et d\u00e9shumanis\u00e9e\u00a0; elles mettent en garde contre un futur proche qui menace la civilisation occidentale. <em>Cit\u00e9ruine<\/em> comprend le m\u00eame nombre de pages (180), les m\u00eames vignettes (reprises \u00e0 la table lumineuse), les m\u00eames cadrages, les m\u00eames d\u00e9cors (livr\u00e9s au d\u00e9labrement), mais la ville y est abandonn\u00e9e, vid\u00e9e de ses habitants. Par cons\u00e9quent tout dialogue a disparu, et c\u2019est un livre sans aucun texte, fait d\u2019images sans vie, souvent proches de l\u2019abstraction. L\u2019\u00e9diteur sugg\u00e8re que dans <em>Cit\u00e9ruine<\/em>, la ville a troqu\u00e9 son statut de d\u00e9cor pour celui de paysage.<\/p>\n<p>Pour clore ce billet qui ne pr\u00e9tend pas \u00e0 l\u2019exhaustivit\u00e9, je rappellerai l\u2019album de l\u2019auteur britannique Woodrow Phoenix que j\u2019ai publi\u00e9 en juin 2013 dans la collection \u00ab\u00a0Actes Sud-L\u2019An 2\u00a0\u00bb.
